Here are some great ideas for quick, easy (and healthy) meals and snacks for older babies who’re looking to try new things. They’re certified mom and dad friendly too!

Delicious natural yoghurt with real fruit and no added sugar!

Ingredients
3 - 4 heaped table spoons of your favourite Really Good Food for Babies fruit puree
Plain Ayrshire yoghurt

Directions

  • Stir the fruit puree into the yoghurt for a delicious, fresh, no added sugar yoghurt.
  • Tip: As your baby begins to accept more texture add in some of their favourite fruit grated or diced into small pieces into the yoghurt

Yummy Fruit Smoothies – great snacks for everyone!

Ingredients
Your favourite Really Good Food for Babies fruit puree
Plain Ayrshire yoghurt
Just enough of your favourite fruit juice to get the right thickness
A few ice cubes
A dash of ground cinnamon - optional

Directions

  • Add the fruit pulp, yoghurt and the ice cubes to your blender
  • Blend till light and smooth adding just enough fruit juice to get the right thickness
  • Serve in a sippy cup

Ice Lollies – great for a hot summer’s day, nothing but pure fruit!

Ingredients
Your favourite Really Good Food for Babies fruit puree

Directions:

For the younger baby

  • Pour the fruit purées into fun shaped ice trays
  • Freeze overnight
  • Pop fruit ices out of the ice tray and allow your baby to mouth and play with the fruit ice
  • Tip: great for soothing teething gums

For the older more confident baby, toddlers, young folk and old

  • Pour the fruit puree into an ice lolly mould and place in the freezer overnight
  • To remove the lollies, place the mould under cold running water and gently pull the lollies out of the mould
  • Tip: If you’re feeling inventive, you can freeze different fruit flavours in layers. Add your first fruit flavour and allow it to set till just hard in the freezer, add the next fruit layer and continue as above.

Dipping sauces

Your baby is at a wonderful explorative age where he will want to feed himself. To make this easy for your baby you can prepare the following:

Ingredients
Lightly-cooked vegetable batons like carrots, butternut, beans, broccoli florets
Your baby’s favourite Really Good Food for Babies puree

Directions

  • Once your baby is ready to feed himself, give him an assortment of lightly cooked vegetables and some small bowls of purees for dipping. Stand well clear!

Pasta sauce

Ingredients:
1 tub of your favourite Really Good Food for Babies puree meal
Some cooked pasta

Directions:

  • Cook your pasta and add to serving bowl.
  • Heat your favourite Really Good Food for Babies puree meal, pour over the pasta and serve

Baked potato sauce

Ingredients:
1 tub of your favourite Really Good Food for Babies puree meal
A baked potato or mash if you’re feeding a younger baby

Directions:

  • Bake your potato in the oven or the microwave.
  • Heat your favourite Really Good Food for Babies puree meal, pour over the potato and serve

Soup – great for the whole family

Soups make wonderful meals especially during the cold winter months.

Ingredients
2 tubs of your favourite Really Good Food for Babies meal puree
Some vegetable stock
Small pasta shapes
For added texture, add some diced vegetables

Directions

  • Add the puree and stock to a pot and heat through
  • Add the pasta and diced vegetables, bring to a gentle boil till the pasta and vegetables are tender – you will need to stir the pot occasionally to prevent the pasta from sticking to the bottom
  • Stir through and serve with toasted bread fingers for dipping.

Meaty macaroni – a great meal for the more confident eater

Ingredients
½ tub of your favourite Really Good Food for Babies meal puree
Some cooked pasta
Some cheese sauce – Woolies have a great ready-to-use cheese sauce

Directions

  • Begin with a dollop of the cheese sauce at the base of the serving bowl
  • Add the cooked pasta onto the cheese sauce
  • Pour the meal puree over the pasta
  • Finish off with a generous dollop of cheese sauce on top
  • Heat through and serve

 

 
 

Lasagne

Ingredients:
1 tub of your favourite Really Good Food for Babies puree meal
Some cooked pasta
Some white sauce – Woolies have a great ready to use Bechamel sauce

Directions:

  • Begin with a dollop of white sauce in the base of your dish.
  • Add some cooked pasta followed by some of the meat puree.
  • Continue layering in this fashion and then end with white sauce and some cheese on top.
  • Bake in your oven for about 15 minutes until the cheese has melted and the dish is hot all the way through.
